ACUPUNCTURE
How Should I Prepare for my Acupuncture Treatment?
- Please do not come on an empty stomach so you are not hungry for your treatment
- Please wear loose, comfortable clothing so your limbs from your elbows and knees down can be easily
exposed
- Please inform us if you are pregnant or have a pace maker so we can place the needles appropriately
- We provide headphones with soothing music to create a relaxing environment, however, should you feel
more comfortable bringing your own headphones and/or ipod, please do so
How Long are the Treatments?
Please allow 1 hour to 1 ¼ hours for your initial visit. Follow-up treatments can last anywhere from 20 – 45 minutes depending on the condition
Do the Needles Hurt?
Most people find Acupuncture very relaxing and don’t feel the needles being inserted, although areas of blockage can sometimes be more sensitive. The needles are very fine, about the thickness of a human hair. If you prefer, we also offer treatments without needles using a combination of acupressure and oriental massage to balance the meridians. However, this option is only available in our private treatment room.
What Should I expect after I receive Treatment?
Depending upon the nature of your complaint, you may begin to experience relief immediately after the acupuncture needles have been inserted, within a few hours after your treatment over the next few days. A practitioner will instruct you to monitor how long your relief lasts after each treatment in order to evaluate whether or not the frequency of your treatments is sufficient enough to allow the cumulative effects of acupuncture to sustain progress over the treatment plan established for your particular condition.
Typically, as the signs and symptoms begin to subside, the frequency of treatments can be reduced. And, once the symptoms are completely gone, it is recommended that you undergo a course of several stabilizing treatments to insure that the symptoms do not return.
Are there any Side Effects?
On rare occasion, one’s original symptoms may briefly get worse or flare up after a treatment. The flare up typically occurs later on the day of your treatment and should only last for a few hours. After a flare up, your symptoms should begin to improve. In the long run, acupuncture does not make symptoms worse.
In some conditions, the body must fully expel a pathogen in order for healing to occur.
For example, if you have a cold, acupuncture will not get rid of the cold but will help accelerate the cold so your body recovers faster. If you are fatigued and getting a cold, acupuncture can help your body fight it off.
In cases of chronic pain, your original pain may improve and unmask less obvious pain in the surrounding areas.
Small, localized bruises from minor bleeding under the skin are infrequent, but do happen. These are no cause for alarm, and despite the cosmetic inconvenience, they actually provide a “bonus treatment”. The re-absorption of the blood continues the stimulation of the acupuncture point even without the presence of the needle.
Any side effects should be reported at your next visit.
Is Community Acupuncture less effective than Private Treatments?
No it’s not! You will receive the same specialized care and treatments but at a discounted rate. The difference is you will be in a semi private room with up to 3-4 other patients in a relaxed comfortable atmosphere. There is no need to undress, however, we recommend wearing loose clothing as the acupuncture needles will be placed below the elbows and knees.
As an added benefit, having others in the same space intensifies the energetic impact of the treatment. It also allows for family members or friends to come heal together.
Do you Accept Insurance?
We do not bill insurance directly for any of our services, however, more and more insurance companies are covering acupuncture and we are more than happy to provide you with a super bill to submit on your own behalf. Please check with your insurance provider.
How much should I expect to spend for an Acupuncture session?
Community Acupuncture: $45.00 per session and Private Acupuncture: $75.00 per session. No matter which option you select, you will receive the same great care and attention! There is a one-time initial conultation charge of $20.00 on top of your treatment fee.

MASSAGE
Must I be completely undressed?
You will be asked to undress to your desired comfort level. Traditionally, massage is performed
with the client unclothed; however, it is up to you what you would like to wear. You will be
properly covered during the massage itself.
Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
No, you will be in the private room by yourself to disrobe and will be given clean sheets and
blanket to cover before the therapist re-enters the room.
Will I be covered during the session?
While an area is being worked on, it will be exposed. The remaining areas will be draped to
keep you warm and comfortable.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
Your therapist will work with you on the areas that need to be addressed, however, a typical full-
body massage includes your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders.
What will the massage or bodywork feel like?
This will depend on the style of massage you select. Swedish will be more relaxing while Deep
Tissue focuses more on the muscle. Please communicate with your therapist on the best option
for you.
What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Prior to the massage, please discuss with the therapist any areas of concern or areas you would
like focused on. During the actual massage, it is best to close your eyes and relax while the
therapist is working on the different areas. Should you need to communicate more or less
pressure or if you are hot or cold, please let them know.
How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains
developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down,
people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity
which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is
recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.
What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation,
increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of
injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is
also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall
sense of well-being.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general
health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems
or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you
receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on
the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
NUTRITION
Why is nutrition important?
Food has a powerful chemical effect on your body and it can shift your emotional and physical state for either better or worse. When you start leaning towards quality, nutrient dense "real foods" your body becomes more balanced and energetic.
Why should I see a Registered Dietitian, can't I just follow a diet?
You could but then you'd be right back where you started!!! Registered Dietitians are professionally trained nutrition specialists who can help you
sort through confusing information and guide you towards making wise lifestyle and food choices. The support you receive working with an R.D. will set you on a path towards vibrant health.
Why don't fad diets work?
Following a fad diet causes you to look outward for the answers that you can find by looking inward. As you work with a Registered Dietitian you will begin to hear your hunger and fullness cues and move towards becoming a mindful and "real food" eater. As you become more balanced your body will be content to shed excess pounds and chronic symptoms, such as IBS, constipation and fatigue.
What can I expect from a nutrition counseling session?
Each personalized nutrition and lifestyle plan includes:
• An introduction to the elements of vibrant health
• How to begin to listen to your hunger and fullness cues
• Support with "real food" eating
• Guidance with goal setting and an action-plan
Why are healthy foods expensive?
When you start eating quality foods it can seem like you are spending more money but the benefits outweigh the investment. Eating healthy will save you money by avoiding prescription drugs, chronic diseases and medical bills, not to mention the impact poor health has on your life. There are ways to eat well without breaking the bank such as shopping for seasonal produce, visiting farmers markets and learning the basics of quick and easy plant based meals.
